St Mary's Church Thornbury

War Memorials

The Church has three separate War Memorials:

1:  The stone cross shown on the right which is dedicated to those who died in the First World War.  There are no names on this memorial.

2:  A board in the Church Porch listing those that died in the First World War - click here for details

3:  A wooden memorial inside the Church listing those who died in 1914-1919 and in 1939-1945 - click here for details of those who died in the Second World War

Meg Wise of Thornbury Museum has been collecting information about the War Dead of Thornbury.  She has details and some photographs of service men named on the memorials.  Please contact Thornbury Museum  if you want to learn more or if you have any material you can contribute to her research.  It is also possible to check the website of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
